Getting Around Seoul: Public Transit, Taxis & Transfer Savings
Navigating Seoul is effortless thanks to its world-class transportation network. The city features an efficient, clean subway system with short wait times, an affordable and extensive bus network, and readily available taxis.
Passengers can save money when using subways and buses by taking advantage of the integrated transfer discount system. By tapping a transit card when exiting from subways and buses, passengers transferring to a different route or line within 30 minutes (or 1 hour between 9:00 PM and 7:00 AM) automatically receive a discounted fare instead of paying a new base fare.
Subway in Seoul runs daily from approximately 5:30 AM to midnight. Lines are color-coded and station signage is displayed in Korean, English, Japanese, and Chinese. Passengers must tap a transit card or purchase a single-use ticket to use the subway.

Deluxe Taxis Premium black sedans with gold stripes offering a roomier, more comfortable ride at premium rates—commonly found around major hotels and attractions.
International Taxis Seoul’s officially designated taxis for international visitors. Drivers are fluent in English, Chinese, or Japanese. These international taxis (recognizable by black or orange colors) have slightly higher fares than general taxis and offer reservations, hourly rentals, airport pickups, and fixed-rate sightseeing tours.
